In the Butterfly World Tattendorf there are only animals from controlled breeding, no free-living butterflies are caught for us. You can marvel at unusual and tropical specimens from all over the world – big, colorful, small, dark, fat hummers and delicate fairy creatures. Discover a wide variety of species with us in the Tattendorf Butterfly World.
Here are some examples of our species:

Feeding stations are set up at several points in the butterfly house. The butterflies enjoy fresh fruit and we can watch them in peace and marvel at the impressive colors and details of their patterns.

Since butterflies only live for a few weeks, they are regularly brought to us by butterfly farms as pupae from Costa Rica and other countries. All of our butterflies come from controlled breeding.
Butterflies lay their eggs on plants, from which very hungry caterpillars hatch. They eat until they pupate after a few weeks. They stay as pupae for about three weeks and during this time they are transported from Costa Rica and other countries to the butterfly world Tattendorf. With us the pupae grow and hatch as the beautiful butterflies that we can admire.

So that our butterflies feel comfortable with us, many tropical plants grow in the butterfly world. They too feel at home in the regulated, warm climate and high humidity in our glass house. A walk through the butterfly world becomes a tropical short trip and a special experience.
Butterfly breeding offers local families great opportunities and support, and nature conservation is also promoted. Because herbicides and pesticides have no place in a healthily growing ecosystem. Butterfly breeders grow fodder plants for the butterflies and ensure the best possible balance of nature.
Despite the long working hours and the constant fight against predators of the butterfly caterpillars, butterfly breeding brings the families a regular income and avoids the need to continue to exploit natural resources (as in traditional agriculture, for example).
Furthermore, breeding communities support many local social projects and ensure sustainable environmental protection.
